Winthrop Preview

The next three days, I will break down the other three teams in our pod. First, 13 seed Winthrop.

Obviously, we remember last year's Eagle team. Following their success in the tournament, however, coach Gregg Marshall jumped ship to Wichita State and went 11-20 this season.

The Eagles are 20-11 and once again Big South champs. They beat Georgia Tech and lost to Baylor in the Virgin Islands. Also lost by 17 at West Virginia. Finished the year with an RPI of 108.

I watched Winthrop in their conference championship against that monster they have at UNC-Asheville. Nothing too special, but it was pretty funny to watch their "big man" try to keep Kenny away from the hoop. It was like watching a LOTR movie where they change the size of some characters with CGI.

Expect to hear the tear jerker story about the kid who died in the car crash last year since every time one of their players shoots free throws they emulate his motion and the fans do it too. Sad story...
