Freshman of the Week- DeJuan Blair- Pittsburgh
In a really boring week for Big East basketball, Blair gets both awards from me for his performance against Oklahoma State. Draelon Burns played pretty well in two games for DePaul, but the Blue Demons lost both and are looking pretty terrible right now. Another fabulous freshman, Donte Greene, was excellent in the dismantling of E. Tennessee State. When the team scores 125, it's a little easier to get buckets.
No way should Pitt be ahead of Marquette. They haven't played anybody. Their AP and Coaches Poll spots are artificially inflated.
Also, Louisevill needs to be thrown to the bottom for their early season collapse. Who can take that "powerhouse" seriously?
Pitt hasn't played anyone, but Marquette has lost once. Luckily, we'll find out for sure when the Panthers play host to Duke on Thursday. If Pitt wins, they earn a spot ahead of Marquette.
I'm not sure what to make of this Louisville team. No convincing wins, a couple close losses to inferior teams. Lossing three key players to inury and suspension has rocked the squad. No way Cincy's ahead of them with 5 losses, but Seton Hall, Rutgers, and South Florida all make compelling cases for a higher ranking. Another loss will drop the Cards to 14th.
As for Providence, I'm not sold yet. They beat a ranked Arkansas team that hasn't proven anything and have three losses to squads that weren't projected to make the tournament. Admittedly, Rhode Island and Miami are certainly looking up, but half the Big East have fewer losses than the Friars.
