Northwestern Preview

It's a late fall afternoon in South Bend, Indiana. The boys have been putting in a great effort on the gridiron and a Notre Dame victory is in sight. The Band of the Fighting Irish begins to play the "1812 Overture" and a chant is heard from the student section. It's quiet at first, but grows louder. Eventually the entire stadium is joining in, "Stoops, Stoops, Stoops..."

We can dream can't we? At the very least, the whole coaching issue should be resolved within a week.

As for the basketball team, a contest with Northwestern is on the menu tonight in Chicago. The Wildcats are 3-1, with a loss to their only quality opponent (Butler). Look out for #22 Michael Thompson, the diminutive hometown shooting guard (16.0 PPG) and forward #24 John Shurna, who leads the team with 7 rebounds per game.

How do you spell JOKE

Notre Dame Basketball

Pathetic performance. This loss will absolutely kill us come Selection Sunday, because of our craptacular non-conference schedule.

You'd think our team had never seen a 1-3-1 zone before. They'll see plenty of it now.

Can you say outcoached? Memo to Mike B. - Northwestern might play a 1-3-1. Best way to attack is skip passes and breaking down the middle. Props to the late, great Dr. Roy Chipman - the inventor of this defense known as "31". Our boys hadn't the slightest on how to attack.

Perhaps Swarbrick needs to give the boot to two coaches this weekend.

I think we just saw the effect of not having Sean Kearney anymore. Yikes.

And now we get the spectacle of Rick Majerus outcoaching Brey without even trying. Ten years of settling to be the equivalent of a mid-major is long enough.

How do you spell OVERREACTION

all the above comments

it is just one game at the beginning of the season. Last year Notre Dame beat a good Texas team and then went on to have a terrible season. DO NOT PANIC!

Remember this is not Notre Dame football, and anyways basketball has something called the NCAA tournament which means a slip up early doesn't kill your season

Ben is a joke. Brey is a joke to not be able to see beyond the name. Is he that shallow?

It's an overeaction to be disappointed by getting beat by 12and severely outcoached by Northwestern? That's the first top 150 team we played all year. I guess you have us beating UCLA in December? Here's what I remember - Holy Cross, Wintrop, Washington State and Penn State - all of these teams have ended our season in recent years. At this point we are not beating Big 10 second division teams. What makes you think we'll beat Big East second division teams? Mike Brey makes a ton of money to prevent bad losses like the loss tonight. Not only did he not prevent it - he made himself and his team look bad in the process. He also made me feel like not dropping $40 to see anymore Kennesaw States. Get used to the nice new blue empty seats boys.

I never said Brey was a good coach.

All i was trying to say is that it is a long season. Was anybody else sky high after #8 ND beat #7 Texas last year? I know i was. UCLA might not be a top 150 team by November, so yes we will beat them. The way the Big East is dominating so far, all we have to do is preform in conference, and the rest will take care of itself.

If Joe thinks this team will "preform" in the Big East to the tune of a winning record, he's a bigger fool than I thought.

Settle down, let's wait a bit before we throw the season away already. Northwestern beating ND is hardly the biggest upset of the season so far. Yes, it was a bad game, but it's just one game...
