Probably for the best if he is willing to stick. He could be an important contributor in the three years following with his size and three point ability.
No real harm in taking the year off for either party. He clearly was #10 in the rotation and would get cut out of the lineup come conference time, so it's good to at least have the opportunity for an extra year.
